HUMAN-ANIMAL STUDIES
HUMANE EDUCATION
Humane education examines the challenges facing our planet:
- Human oppression
- Animal exploitation
- Materialism
- Ecological degradation
It explores how we might live with compassion and respect for everyone: not just our friends and neighbours, but all people; not just our own dogs and cats, but all animals; not just our own homes, but also the earth itself, our ultimate home.
Humane educators inspire people to live examined, intentional lives so that what they do today helps the planet, animals and all people tomorrow.

SPECIESISM
Discrimination, separatism, concealment, exploitation, manipulation, misuse, violence, indifference, apathy, ignorance, hatred, hypocrisy and inconsistency.
These words represent attitudes and behaviours that have motivated many humanitarian movements throughout history.
The uprising against racism and sexism was in protest at these very behaviours and attitudes. All of these words can be applied to human attitudes and treatment of animals. The term often used to describe discrimination against animals is speciesism.
