KEY COMPETENCIES

The New Zealand Curriculum specifies five key competencies to be developed by all students, these are:

• Managing self
• Relating to others
• Participating and contributing
• Thinking
• Using language, symbols, and texts

Animals & Us will help students develop competencies in many of these categories. The New Zealand Curriculum Framework outlines other important groups of skills that will be covered within the five main categories, in particular valuing skills, which are an important component of the Animals & Us vision.
